The Suggestion of Steep Hill Landscaping
By Sam Cyrus

Steep hill landscaping can be very challenging for some landscapers and homeowners due to rainfall and the possibility of erosion. The landscaping itself is a way of beautifying your home and maintaining as much of its natural landform and structure as possible. For steep hill landscaping, you may need to put up a retaining wall especially if your steep hill is not made of rock. The hill may have survived several years of rainfall and erosion but the construction of your home may have altered the density and placement of things.

Retaining wall is a common thing for the steep hill landscaping. A retaining wall is a structure that helps to prevent the downslide of soil, rocks and plants from a steep incline. This is highly useful for steep hill landscaping to prevent accidents and injuries. Your wall needs to be several feet higher than the current level of your soil where you intend to build it. This is so that when there is a downslide, the accumulated mud or soil will not easily overflow. This steep hill landscaping suggestion will also help you avoid any liability in case of a landslide from your hill.

Another suggestion for steep hill landscaping is by having a paved pathway or steps going up the steep hill. This can act as a sort of prevention of erosion and at the same time give you access up and down the hill. A curved pathway may be more favorable for some compared to steps because of the easier way to transport things up and down the steep hill.

It must be considered for

the plants to the steep hill landscaping. Putting terraces on your hillside will help to prevent any erosion but you may have to alter the hillside a bit to make way for the terraces. It may also take some work and planning when putting up terraces as part of your steep hill landscape plan. These terraces can be as shallow or as deep as you wish. Make sure to make allowances for you to walk around them when you start planting. Another alternative is to plant big trees (especially Juniper or Pine) near the start of the downward slope. These big trees will also present themselves as a problem if you have intentions of cutting them down and planting something else because they can develop a network of roots that can rival the subway.

Steep hill landscaping can be a big deal when you are doing it alone. You will probably need some extra help for digging the terraces or making the steps. The unique challenges that must be addressed separate from general landscape advice may be presented by the steep landscaping a hill.
