Wheelbarrow
Wheelbarrow is a small hand-propelled vehicle designed to be pushed and guided by a single person using two handles to the rear or by a sail to push the ancient wheelbarrow by wind. There are two words made of this term: “wheel” and “barrow.” “Barrow” is a derivation of the Old English “bearwe” which was a device used for carrying loads. Some people incorrectly substitute the word “barrel” in place of “barrow” as this seems to make more sense (possibly because the cavity in a wheelbarrow resembles a half-barrel). This is a tool designed to distribute the weight of its load between the wheel and the operator so enabling the convenient carriage of heavier and bulkier loads than would be possible were the weight carried entirely by the operator.
In the construction industry and in gardening, using of the wheelbarrows is common thing. Typical capacity is approximately 170 litres (6 cubic feet) of material. There is also a two-wheel type of the wheelbarrow. This may be more stable on level ground, while the almost universal one-wheel type has better maneuverability in small spaces, on planks or when tilted ground would throw the load off balance. The use of one wheel also permits greater control of the deposition of the load on emptying.
There are some differences in how wheelbarrows are constructed. Many builders and landscapers prefer a steel wheelbarrow or a contractor wheelbarrow because of their strength and durability. However, many residential models, including poly wheelbarrows, can be just as durable, but weigh less and are corrosion-free.Generally, the wheelbarrows are constructed with durable materials, such as steel or a heavy-duty plastic blend, making them strong enough to carry almost any load. A wheelbarrow commonly includes a sloped tray, one wheel, two steel legs and two handles. Its design helps it keep stable while being loaded and makes it relatively easy to maneuver when full. The end of a wheelbarrow is slanted, so the tray can be conveniently tipped out when you are ready to empty its contents.
If you are pushing a wheelbarrow make sure you keep it balanced as it can tip from side to side. While it can be a slight challenge to keep a full wheelbarrow upright in transport, especially with heavier loads, it is easier to maneuver around corners and in tight spaces. When working on your lawn and garden or tackling bigger projects in and around your home, you need help to cart around heavy items with the wheelbarrow.
